The Historical Society, Inc. collects, preserves, and celebrates the history of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow through its museum in the 1848 Jacob Odell House. Visitors explore exhibits of fine arts, decorative arts, archeological objects, printed and manuscript materials, maps, costumes, and weaponry related to the region's heritage. The museum presents educational programs and research opportunities, including essays on local Black history available through the society's community page and YouTube channel. Group tours of up to twenty-five persons can be arranged by appointment. The library holds additional resources for those conducting research. The Historical Society has served as keeper of community memories since 1889, and its collections reflect the character and history of both villages. The museum is located in Tarrytown, approximately one mile north of the Tappan Zee Bridge and about twenty-five miles from New York City, with parking available on Grove Street and nearby municipal lots.
