About Boomtown Museum

Boomtown Museum in Shasta Lake preserves the region's history through rotating displays, historic photographs, and community events. Visitors explore 14-foot tall murals depicting the Mammoth Mine above the now-submerged town of Kennett and dam workers arriving to build Shasta Dam. Platform displays feature antiques and vintage items, including the original movie projector salvaged from the Boomtown Shasta Theatre. Hands-on exhibits include vintage typewriters and view masters for visitors of all ages. The museum's collection encompasses well over 5,000 photographs and articles documenting pioneers, Native Americans, early businesses, mining and lumber tools, school mementos, and memorabilia from dam workers and their families. Additional resources include a computer database of photographs, recorded interviews, maps, and reference materials about the cities now beneath Shasta Lake's waters. The museum welcomes tours and serves school groups and organizations with visual and oral presentations about local heritage.
