About Shasta Historical Society

The Shasta Historical Society is a nonprofit organization in Redding established in 1930 to preserve and promote Shasta County history. Visitors explore the society's museums and access the research library, which holds collections of photographs and historical documents cataloging local heritage and regional sites. The organization offers historical walking tours for those interested in learning about the area. Collections document structures including the IOOF Hall, an Italianate brick building constructed in 1888 and the oldest remaining brick building in downtown Redding, as well as Fall River Mills and the Redding Rancheria, a federally recognized tribe. The society hosts community events and produces publications complementing the museum and library offerings. Research requests require advance notice by email.
