About Museum of Truckee History

Museum of Truckee History is a non-profit institution located in the historic depot building in downtown Truckee, California. Visitors explore artifacts and exhibits that illustrate how the town survived and thrived through different industries over time. The museum displays exhibits on Truckee's Indian Heritage, the Contributions of the Chinese laborers who built the Central Pacific Railroad, Logging and Lumbering at Hobart Mills, the Ice Industry that supplied California's fruit trade, and the Boca Brewery. Additional exhibits cover Charles McGlashan's vision for winter tourism, the path from Icicle to Olympics and Beyond regarding Palisades Tahoe's 1960 Winter Olympics, and Railroading Then and Now, featuring information about cab forward steam engines used over Donner Pass. The museum also offers documentary films, lectures, educational programs, and research facilities. The institution is staffed and supported entirely by community volunteers and operates as a collaboration between the Truckee-Donner Historical Society and the Truckee Donner Railroad Society.
