About Anderson Collection at Stanford University

The Anderson Collection at Stanford University is a free museum dedicated to modern and contemporary American art. Visitors explore work by celebrated artists including Martin, Nevelson, Pollock, and Rothko, drawn from one of the world's most outstanding private assemblies of modern and contemporary American art. The collection was assembled by Bay Area family Harry W. and Mary Margaret Anderson and Mary Patricia Anderson Pence over fifty years and donated to Stanford. The museum presents rotating exhibitions and focused presentations, such as a spotlight on the work of contemporary artist Susan Rothenberg. Upcoming exhibitions bring to light hidden histories, including works that connect stories of labor, loss, and legacy. The museum also offers programs including storytime. Located adjacent to Cantor Arts Center and the McMurtry Building for the Department of Art and Art History in Santa Clara County, the Anderson Collection strengthens Stanford's commitment to art study, creation, and experience.
