Angel Island Immigration Station in San Francisco Bay functioned as the West Coast's largest immigration port between 1910 and 1940, processing approximately 500,000 immigrants from 80 countries. Visitors walk in the footsteps of these arrivals, viewing the immigration barracks and examining poems inscribed on barracks walls. The museum exhibits explore exclusionary immigration laws and present stories of immigrant strength and resilience. The site offers guided tours and self-guided visits, with monthly Hands on History programs combining art-making and historical learning. Educational field trips and virtual field trips serve school groups. The Poetry Finder and Poetry Vault allow access to immigrant writings. At Ayala Cove, visitors access a café, bike rentals, the gift shop, and a tram. Ferry service operates from San Francisco and Tiburon.
