About Carriage Room Museum

The Carriage Room Museum occupies the original carriage room within the main stable at the Huddart Wunderlich estate in Woodside, California. Visitors explore exhibits showcasing local history spanning the lumbering, farming, and Great Estate eras. The museum displays original 19th-century carriages, a life-size replica of a blacksmith shop, and the history of the Folger and Wunderlich families and the Folger Coffee Company. Additional exhibits present a timeline of local and national history and emphasize the horse's importance to American culture in the West. The museum also features discoveries from the 2010 stable renovation, including narrow gauge tracks from the 1870s used for transporting grapes and original knob-and-tube wiring. A rotating exhibit details the logging history of the Woodside area from 1849 to the early 1860s, with vintage photographs, descriptions of logger jobs, and actual tools including whip saws, axes, wedges, and spring boards. A life-size figure of a properly dressed logger is also on display. Docents provide guided experiences during visits.
