About The Insect Asylum

The Insect Asylum is a nonprofit vintage taxidermy and insect museum in Avondale, Chicago, where visitors touch, explore, and learn from over 5,000 specimens and interactive exhibits. Guests see live insects up close, meet the resident opossum Opal, and discover diverse species through hands-on displays marked with green dots for handling. The museum offers specimen preservation classes and regularly hosts music, poetry, and dance events. Educational programs serve kids and adults, while the free gift shop showcases work from over 60 local independent artists. The venue hosts event rentals and art commissions.
