The Historic Nissen House in Lewisville is a museum housed in an 1876 Greek Revival and Italianate structure that visitors tour to learn local history. The first floor, currently open to the public, features eight fireplaces, nine-foot ceilings, and period rooms that reflect the home's original design. Visitors explore exhibits on the Nissen Wagon Works, the family business that produced thousands of wagons annually, and the life of George Elias Nissen, a prominent local industrialist and landowner. The house hosts educational programs and community events including harvest celebrations that recreate 1880s farm life with hands-on activities. Field trips are available for school groups. The museum also offers presentations on regional history, such as the history of the Nissen Wagon Works. A garden occupies the rear grounds. The house sits in Lewisville, North Carolina, on a site where it was relocated in 2009 to preserve it from demolition.
