About Alamance County Historical Museum

Alamance County Historical Museum in Burlington showcases Victorian American life within a National Register historic house. The gracious country home was built by Michael Holt III in 1790, then enlarged in 1800 and again in 1875 by his grandson L. Banks Holt. Edwin Michael Holt, a pioneer in the southern textile industry, was born here. Visitors tour the house museum with many original furnishings that create a relaxed atmosphere for exploring the property's history. Guided tours last about 45 minutes and are available at no cost. Groups of 10 or more require advance reservations. The beautiful Victorian setting is also used for wedding receptions, luncheons and other private functions. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday mornings into afternoon, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, though it occasionally closes for private events.
