About Blandwood Museum

Blandwood Museum is a National Historic Landmark in Greensboro where visitors tour a nationally significant home showcasing American Italianate architecture and nineteenth-century decorative arts. The house features a collection of period furnishings, landscape paintings, and portraiture, much of it original to the residence. Built around 1795 as a farmhouse, Blandwood was expanded in 1846 into a prototype Tuscan Villa style structure with a central three-story tower, stucco walls, and a low roofline, making it the oldest standing example of Italianate architecture in the country. Tours examine the architectural innovations and the history of the Morehead family who occupied the home, as well as the stories of enslaved people including Hannah Jones and Tinnan Morehead who maintained the estate. The museum operates on Saturdays and charges admission. Blandwood is located in Greensboro.
