About Textile Heritage Museum

The Textile Heritage Museum occupies the former Glencoe Company Store and Administrative offices in Historic Glencoe, a preserved 19th-century textile mill village in Burlington, North Carolina. Visitors tour exhibits featuring hundreds of original artifacts including massive machine looms, knitting machines, sewing machines, and office equipment that mill employees once used for orders and correspondence. Original documents and ledgers are on display alongside a partially recreated company store stocked with period dry goods and exhibits representing major textile corporations including Burlington Industries, Glen Raven Mills, Copland Mills, and Holt Hosiery. The museum includes the restored office of founder James H. Holt, displaying a portrait painted by renowned artist William Garl Browne, Jr. The mill, built in 1880 along the Haw River and operational since 1882, specialized in plaid cotton fabrics shipped nationwide and internationally. Admission is free. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and closed on most major government holidays.
