About Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum

The Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum in Pittsburg consists of two award-winning museums accessible with one admission: the Depot Museum, housed in a former Texas & St. Louis Railway Company depot built between 1880 and 1885, and the Farmstead Museum featuring the oldest home in the county. Visitors explore artifacts spanning over 1,000 years of regional history, including Caddo Indian relics, a working telegraph station, an 1894 telephone switchboard, antique telephones, a printing press from the late 1880s, a 1909 Studebaker Surrey, a 1925 Model T Ford, and a 1927 American LaFrance fire truck. The museum's signature attraction is a replica of the Ezekiel Airship, which flew in 1901, a year before the Wright Brothers' flight. The Farmstead Museum displays a fully furnished farmhouse with period farm equipment from the 1900s. Both self-guided and guided tours are available. The museum serves families and history enthusiasts interested in late 1800s and early 1900s rural East Texas life and culture.
