About Northbrook History Museum

The Northbrook History Museum preserves and shares the history of Northbrook, Illinois through exhibits and public programming. Visitors explore the museum's collections at its location on Walters Avenue, where the space is open on Sunday afternoons or by appointment. The museum also operates the Hope-Union Heritage Center, which houses archives and offices and opens on Thursday mornings or by appointment. The Northbrook Historical Society, organized in 1973, discovered and collected materials that establish and illustrate the village's exploration, settlement, development, and progress. Throughout the year, the museum hosts community events including the annual Shermerfest celebration at Village Green Park, the Village Birthday observance at Northbrook Village Hall, and an Illuminate Northbrook event featuring a museum open house. The institution maintains a meeting room dedicated to Lee Schinleber, the society's first historian. The museum serves residents and visitors interested in local history and community heritage.
