River Trail Nature Center tells the story of plants, animals and natural landscapes formed by the Des Plaines River through free exhibits, walking trails and onsite nature educators. Visitors explore three walking trails totaling 1.7 miles on unpaved surfaces, or extend their walk on the Des Plaines River Trail System. The center offers all-ages weekly events including maple syrup demonstrations, owl encounters and guided hikes. Indoor and outdoor play areas let children climb and create. The facility includes a nature center building with exhibit rooms, accessible indoor bathrooms and parking. Birding is popular at this hotspot. The center is located in Northbrook, Illinois and welcomes hikers, walkers and cyclists. Service dogs are permitted.
Admission is free. The venue says: “River Trail Nature Center's free exhibits, walking trails and onsite nature educators help tell the story of the plants, animals and natural landscapes formed by the Des Plaines River.”
