About Glencoe Historical Society

The Glencoe Historical Society is a museum located in Glencoe, Illinois, where visitors explore the area's heritage through exhibits and guided tours. The facility houses an award-winning Black Heritage Exhibit that earned the national AASLH Leadership in History Award of Excellence. Guests can participate in docent-led walking tours of downtown Glencoe, tracing the business district's development from its 1890s origins with blacksmith shops and liveries to its present-day restaurants and boutiques. The society also offers guided tours of Ravine Bluffs, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed subdivision, and Daggitt Cemetery, an early Protestant pioneer cemetery on Lake-Cook Road. At Daggitt Cemetery, visitors learn about cemetery symbolism, the stories of Robert Daggitt and Glencoe's first German and English settlers, and the area's pioneer churches. Children over eight can participate in a scavenger hunt at the cemetery. The society sells tickets online through its website for these activities.
