About Niles Historical and Cultural Center

The Niles Historical and Cultural Center preserves and interprets the history of Niles, Illinois, and the surrounding Chicago area from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Visitors explore two floors of exhibits filled with historical artifacts and research that are continuously updated with new content. The museum occupies a former Cook County Sheriff's Police Department station built in 1923, one of the oldest municipal structures in Niles. The building features an auditorium for programs and dedicated collections storage space. The center offers guided tours for individuals and large groups, lasting between thirty minutes and an hour. Exhibits showcase local heritage through artifact collections, archival materials, and rotating displays that document the region's development. The Niles Historical Society, chartered in 1971, operates the center. General admission is free, and the facility is handicapped accessible with parking available.
