About Des Plaines History Center

The Des Plaines History Center comprises two buildings: the Visitor & Education Center and the 1907 Kinder House Museum. Visitors explore exhibits about Des Plaines and Illinois history, tour room displays in the Queen Anne Revival house portraying early twentieth-century life, and browse thousands of searchable archives. The center offers programs for children, teens, and adults, along with educational classes. A current exhibit, "Voicing Our Veterans' Stories," features local veterans sharing accounts from the Civil War through the Global War on Terror. The gallery rotates temporary exhibitions, such as photography displays from the Des Plaines Camera Club. A gift shop stocks Des Plaines t-shirts, postcards, books and other merchandise. The center also provides historical research assistance for those investigating the history of their homes or neighborhoods.
