About Batavia Depot Museum

The Batavia Depot Museum, open since 1975, preserves the history of Batavia through seven permanent exhibits and rotating seasonal galleries. Visitors explore the stories of early hunters, teachers, industrial leaders, and rocket scientists who shaped the community. The museum occupies a historic Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad Depot built in 1854, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside, exhibits detail rail transportation history, windmill manufacturing, agriculture, and banking. Historic outbuildings on the grounds include an 1907 caboose, the Coffin Bank, and a gazebo. The museum houses an archives and research library in the Gustafson Research Center. A gift shop offers apparel, decor, and books. General admission is free. The museum is located in Batavia, Illinois, along the Fox River.
