About National Mounted Warrior Museum
The National Mounted Warrior Museum explores Fort Hood's heritage of mounted warfare and cavalry units. Visitors walk through over 12,000 square feet of permanent gallery space showcasing exhibits on mounted soldiers and the history that shaped them. The facility also features over 1,000 square feet of temporary exhibit space, allowing the museum to rotate themed displays throughout the year. The museum's centerpiece is a 4,900 square foot rotunda designed for viewing and gatherings. The 17-acre site sits adjacent to the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment, giving visitors proximity to the living tradition of mounted cavalry. The museum is operated by the US Army and located just outside Fort Hood's main gate in Texas. It suits anyone interested in military history, cavalry heritage, or the role of mounted warriors in American armed forces.
