About National Mounted Warfare Foundation
The National Mounted Warrior Museum in Copperas Cove honors the history and legacy of America's mounted soldiers through immersive exhibits and multimedia experiences. Visitors explore how mounted warfare has evolved across major conflicts including World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and the Global War on Terror. The museum shares stories from the units associated with Fort Hood, including III Corps, the 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, the 2nd Armored Division, and the 761st Tank Battalion. Exhibits highlight Fort Hood's transformation from a temporary camp to a major military post, while personal testimonials from servicemen and women convey lived experiences. The museum also explores diversity and inclusion, examining the post's role in the military's gender and racial integration. Interactive and technologically advanced displays help visitors understand the contributions of mounted soldiers to national defense and the shared history between Fort Hood and surrounding Central Texas communities.
