About Museum of San Francisco

Museum of San Francisco occupies the site of the first mint in the West, located downtown. Visitors explore the city's unique and colorful history through permanent and rotating exhibits. The current exhibition, The Silver Ball and the Golden Gate: Pinball Celebrates San Francisco, created in partnership with the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda, features rare vintage pinball machines with San Francisco themes. A centerpiece is a one-of-a-kind pinball machine displaying an aerial view of the 1939-1940 Golden Gate International Exhibition. An accompanying video from the Prelinger Archive shows rare footage from that exhibition. Two of the pinball machines on display are playable, offering hands-on engagement. Docent-led tours run on Saturdays at scheduled times.
