Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum occupies 13 acres in Griffith Park and operates as an all-volunteer, donor-funded organization founded in 1956. Visitors ride on live steam, gas-mechanical, and electric trains on Sunday afternoons, weather permitting. The museum features tracks in four gauges, including 7-1/2 inch, 4-3/4 inch, and 3-1/2 inch scales, with a fully-automated block signal system containing more than 70 signals. The layout includes a 68-foot truss bridge, three tunnels, and several additional bridges. Most equipment visible at the facility, including the trains themselves, was built by club members. The grounds contain steaming bays where locomotives operate, a club car converted into a machine shop and meeting space, and Sherwood Station providing shade and seating for riders. The Walt Disney Barn and Kountry Kitchen are also on the premises. A visit involves riding trains through the scenic grounds while observing working miniature railroad technology and infrastructure in actual operation.
