About John and Alice Coltrane Home

John and Alice Coltrane Home is a two-story brick and wood frame house in Dix Hills where the jazz musicians lived and created from 1964 to 1973. Visitors explore the upstairs room where John Coltrane composed his legendary album "A Love Supreme" and the downstairs recording studio where Alice Coltrane made groundbreaking albums for the Impulse! label in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The home retains its original mid-1960s appearance, including woodwork, paneling, carpeting, acoustic tiling, and period kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The site is undergoing restoration to house educational programming, physical and digital archives, interactive exhibits, meditative spaces, and a state-of-the-art recording studio. Events including performances and listening experiences celebrate the Coltranes' musical and spiritual legacy. The home serves those interested in jazz history, African American cultural heritage, and the artistic lives of two influential musicians.
