About Franklin Area Historical Society

The Franklin Area Historical Society preserves and shares the stories of Franklin and Franklin Township through museums, programs, publications, and tours. Visitors explore the Harding Museum, housed in the former home of Major General Edwin Forrest Harding, a West Point graduate who commanded the 32nd Infantry Division in World War II. The Log Post Office Museum features a structure commissioned by Thomas Jefferson in 1805, one of Ohio's oldest standing post offices. Both museums operate on limited schedules, with hours published on the organization's Facebook page. Exhibits cover local history including the Uhlenbrock Cigar Factory, the 1915 Franklin High School football team, and notable residents like Lillian Beam Kennedy, who graduated from Ohio State University Phi Beta Kappa. General admission to both museums is free. The society welcomes volunteers and members interested in Franklin's rich historical heritage.
