The Ela Historical Society and Museum in Lake Zurich preserves local history through exhibits and artifacts displayed on the main and second floors of its building. Visitors explore displays documenting the Ela Township's past, from early settlers who arrived in 1835 onward. The museum offers a 360-degree virtual tour of the second floor exhibit accessible online. History enthusiasts can take the Historical Lake Walk Audio Tour, a self-guided walking route around Lake Zurich that begins at Paulus Park on the west side near the water tower and describes the historical significance of landmarks visitors pass regularly. The society organizes History Day and an Antique & Artisan Market as community events. Established in 1976 as a memorial to the Bicentennial Era, the organization welcomes visitors to its exhibits and invites community members to attend monthly meetings held throughout the year to learn about and participate in local history preservation efforts.
