Cultural Arts Playhouse of Merrick

About Cultural Arts Playhouse of Merrick

Cultural Arts Playhouse of Merrick is a regional theater presenting Broadway-style musicals and plays on its mainstage. Visitors attend live performances such as The Wiz, a contemporary retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz blending soul, gospel, and R&B, and A Chorus Line, which follows Broadway dancers auditioning and sharing personal stories. The theater also offers theater education classes for ages seven through eighteen, taught through its Musical Theater and Acting Academy and Young People's Theater programs. Classes cover three distinct areas: technical theater including audition techniques, musical components with group and solo singing, and creative play using improvisational games. Founded in 1995, the theater has produced over five hundred productions and serves more than twenty thousand people annually. More than five thousand students have learned from instructors with combined experience exceeding one hundred fifty years, many going on to professional theater, television, and film. Tickets are sold online through the venue's website. The playhouse is located in Merrick, New York.
