About Amqui Station & Visitors Center
Amqui Station and Visitors Center preserves a historic 1910 railway station built by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad in Madison, Tennessee. The restored station includes original architectural features typical of southern railway design, with deeply overhanging eaves supported by triangular knee braces. Inside, visitors explore the agent-operator's office, baggage room, engine room, battery room, and signal operator's room, learning about the building's railway heritage and its connection to Johnny Cash, who visited the station during the 1970s and later saved it from demolition. The visitors center and pavilion host a farmers market featuring local vendors and live music performances. The station also serves as an event venue available for private celebrations, including holiday parties and weddings. Educational programs and special events occur throughout the year at this museum and community gathering space.
