The World War II Flight Training Museum in Douglas preserves the history of pilot training during World War II. Visitors explore a restored barracks from the 63rd Army Air Forces Contract Pilot School, which trained between 5,000 and 7,000 aviation cadets from 1941 to 1944. The museum houses exhibits on training aircraft, bomber and fighter planes flown in combat, and equipment including bailout and survival gear used by pilots, bombardiers, and navigators. Displays feature aircraft photos, models, and artwork throughout the barracks. The museum also covers the Flying Tigers and Doolittle's Raiders, plus Home Front history including women's roles. After touring the museum, visitors can walk the historic 63rd campus, which remains one of the most intact primary flight training centers from the war. The campus includes ten buildings, two airplane hangars, and a flagpole from the original detachment. The museum suits history enthusiasts and families interested in aviation heritage.
