About UC Riverside Botanic Gardens

UC Riverside Botanic Gardens covers 40 acres in the foothills of the Box Springs Mountains on the UC Riverside campus, where visitors wander more than four miles of scenic trails through themed and geographical plant collections. The gardens feature over 3,500 plant species from Mediterranean and arid climates, including a Butterfly Garden with native flowering shrubs, an Herb Garden with culinary and medicinal plants, a Rose Garden displaying over 300 selections, and specialized collections from Australia, Baja California, and California's native chaparral. Visitors can attend periodic early morning bird walks, after-hours Twilight Tours, and an annual Rose Pruning Demonstration. The gardens also host Art in the Gardens, an outreach event featuring curated items from local artisans. UC Master Gardener Docents are available in the Butterfly Garden on select Sundays.
