UC Riverside Botanic Gardens is a 40-acre living plant museum featuring more than 3,500 plant species from Mediterranean and arid climates. Visitors walk over four miles of scenic trails through themed collections including a Butterfly Garden, Herb Garden, Iris Garden with 150 named bearded iris cultivars, three Rose Gardens displaying over 300 selections, a Native American Plants Garden, and a Lilac Lane planted with true lilacs suited to Riverside's climate. Geographical collections showcase plants from Australia, Baja California, and California Chaparral. The Gardens hosts periodic early morning bird walks, after-hours Twilight Tours, an annual Rose Pruning Demonstration, and Art in the Gardens featuring local artisans. Located on the UC Riverside campus in the Box Springs Mountains foothills, the Gardens charges admission with tickets sold online at gardens.ucr.edu. Student members and individual Friends members receive free admission; UCR faculty and staff receive 10% discount with code FS10.
