About Jensen Alvarado Historic Ranch and Museum

Jensen Alvarado Historic Ranch and Museum preserves a 30-acre working farm established in the early 1870s by retired sea captain Cornelius Jensen and his wife Mercedes Alvarado. Visitors wander through the orchards, feed resident farm animals, and tour the brick ranch house built by Cornelius, one of the few non-adobe structures constructed in the area at that time. The property includes historic outbuildings and a large winery that now serves as an interpretive center, allowing guests to experience the rhythm of farm life from before citrus cultivation dominated Southern California agriculture. The ranch buildings were restored by Riverside County in the late 1970s after the family descendants sold the property. The site sits in Jurupa Valley within Riverside, California. Tours of the house and museum are available, and summer activities are offered throughout the grounds on a daily basis by appointment.
