About Tomales Regional History Center

Housed in the restored 1921 Tomales High School Auditorium, the Tomales Regional History Center preserves and shares the heritage of the region spanning from Point Reyes Peninsula north to Bodega Bay, including western Marin and Sonoma Counties. Visitors explore permanent exhibits covering the Coast Miwok people who lived here before European arrival, the pioneers who settled the land, the story of Tomales as a historic port community, the region's dairy and agricultural industries, and the railroad that connected these remote areas. The Center also features temporary exhibitions and hosts a lecture series exploring regional history and culture. The museum occupies the building's primary level, where staff and volunteers share pieces from the collection and interpret artifacts alongside visitors' own stories and memories. A self-guided walking tour of Tomales village complements the indoor experience. The History Center operates in Tomales, California, within the original high school building where basketball games and school assemblies once took place.
