About The Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History
The Jack Mason Museum of West Marin History collects and preserves historical information about West Marin communities including Point Reyes Station, Inverness, Marshall, Tomales Bay, and Olema Valley. Visitors explore rotating exhibits displayed in the gallery space within The Gables, a historic 1893 house that also houses the Inverness Library. The museum's current featured exhibit is "Berkeley and Inverness in Conversation." The archive, housed in nearby Baily's Cottage, contains an extensive collection of West Marin photographs, maps, manuscripts, documents, newspapers, and artifacts spanning from the tip of Point Reyes to Devils Gulch. The museum publishes historical books and research materials, including the comprehensive 600-page history "Point Reyes and Tomales Bay: A History of the Land and Its People," which details the region from Coast Miwok Tamal-ko people through the 1970s with over 500 illustrations and maps. Researchers and community members can access the collections by appointment. The museum is located in Inverness, Marin County, California.
