The Museum of the American Indian in Novato sits within Miwok Park and functions as a living cultural center. Visitors explore rotating exhibits highlighting Indigenous peoples throughout the Americas, view a permanent reproduction of a Coast Miwok house made of tule and redwood, and attend educational programs on local tribes and traditional ecological knowledge. The museum hosts lectures, workshops, poetry events, and cultural celebrations including an annual Trade Feast, alongside ninety-minute school field trips and the Aay-Ko Playgroup for young children. Current exhibits feature work by graphic illustrator Jackie Fawn and teaching artist Henry Frank. The museum charges admission, with children under three, EBT cardholders, and Native American visitors with identification admitted free.
