About The Whiteside Museum of Natural History

The Whiteside Museum of Natural History in Seymour features exhibits centered on the Permian Red Beds and prehistoric life. Visitors explore the Bakker Hall of Dinosaurs, which showcases dinosaurs from across North America and their relationship to modern birds, and the Sundell Hall of Mammals, displaying prehistoric mammals through modern species. The museum also features a life-sized 3D-printed statue of paleontologist Myria Perez. Paleontologists at the museum research the Permian period from 287 million years ago, studying ancient freshwater sharks including Orthacanthus and Xenacanthus. The museum offers school tours limited to twenty students per group, lasting forty-five minutes. Special evening events include Dinosaurs After Dark and seasonal programs. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday mornings and afternoons, with Sunday hours in the early afternoon. Wheelchairs are available upon request, and the front entrance and north parking lot are wheelchair accessible.
