About Alley Oop Fantasy Land And Museum

Alley Oop Fantasy Land and Museum in Iraan features a seven-acre park with larger-than-life statues of characters from the 1930s comic strip, including Alley Oop himself, his girlfriend Oola, the pet dinosaur Dinny, Dr. Wonmug, and Oscar Boom. The museum, curated by Edna "Snooks" Collett, explores the history of local artist VT Hamlin, who created the comic strip while fascinated by the prehistoric dinosaur-era fossils found throughout the Permian Basin surrounding Iraan. Visitors walk through exhibits chronicling Hamlin's time-traveling adventures and the town's oil-boom origins. The park celebrates how Iraan, named after early oil magnates Ira and Ann Yates, inspired Hamlin's iconic caveman character and his kingdom of Moo. The attraction suits road travelers on Interstate 10 between El Paso and Austin seeking a quirky West Texas detour, located thirteen miles north of the highway in one of the loneliest stretches of I-10.
