About Amarillo Railroad Museum, Inc.

The Amarillo Railroad Museum preserves Texas Panhandle railroad history through restored equipment and an extensive HO-scale model railroad layout. Visitors explore a detailed recreation of the Santa Fe Railroad as it operated during the 1950s through 1970s, an era spanning the final steam locomotive operations and the rise of second-generation diesel locomotives in the region. The layout also includes cameo sections depicting the Rock Island and Burlington railroads. The museum displays authentic railroad paper items and ephemera alongside the model railroad. The organization began as a model railroad club in the 1990s and expanded its mission to document disappearing railroad history. Exhibits feature carefully preserved scale models and regional rail heritage artifacts that offer insight into Texas transportation history for enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.
