About The Strange & Unusual Gallery

The Strange & Unusual Gallery in downtown Joliet showcases contemporary art by local and regional artists. Visitors explore rotating exhibitions featuring work in various media, including ceramics and other fine art pieces. The gallery hosts themed events throughout the year, such as awkward family photo sessions where guests can pose for 20-minute photoshoots in custom settings and receive edited digital images. Past events have featured special holiday-themed sets, including displays with a six-foot animatronic Krampus figure. The gallery also occasionally offers Kristmas with Krampus photography experiences where visitors and their families create memorable portraits. Artists featured at the gallery include ceramic artists whose work emphasizes tactile, emotionally resonant pieces, alongside painters and sculptors. The venue functions as a community gathering space for those interested in supporting local creative work and viewing boldly executed contemporary art. Hours are limited and vary by exhibition, with appointment options available.
