About The Historic Hampton House

The Historic Hampton House Museum of Culture & Art occupies a restored two-story modernist hotel in Miami's Brownsville neighborhood, ten minutes from Miami Beach. Visitors take guided 45-minute tours exploring the building's significance as a Green Book venue during the Jim Crow era. The museum exhibits the 1950s and 1960s interior and mid-century architecture of this former gathering place for civil rights leaders and Black entertainers barred from Miami Beach hotels and nightclubs. Inside, interpretive exhibits document the Hampton House's role as a social center where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered an early version of his I Have a Dream speech, where Muhammad Ali celebrated his first heavyweight title victory, and where performers including Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, and Sammy Davis Jr. gathered after hours. The museum also features an augmented reality exhibition called Journey Home. Tours operate Wednesday through Sunday at scheduled times.
