About Gold Coast Railroad Museum

Gold Coast Railroad Museum preserves and operates historic railroad equipment across three miles of track in Miami. Visitors explore over forty historic rail cars, including Presidential Rail Car Ferdinand Magellan and Florida East Coast Steam Locomotive 153. The museum features a model railroad room, displays of rail equipment, Thomas play tables, and exhibits about Naval Air Station Richmond, the former WWII airship base where the museum now stands. Founded in 1957, it became one of Florida's three official state railroad museums. The museum offers hands-on Engineer Experiences where visitors operate NASA Locomotive 2, a Cold War-era engine that once supported Space Shuttle launches. The Bronze Spike Experience provides introductory operation; the Silver Spike Experience includes coupling railcars and pulling consists; the Gold Spike Experience offers full-day yard operations and locomotive mastery. The museum is located in Miami, Florida, next to Zoo Miami.
