About Deering Estate

Deering Estate is a historic house museum and ecological field station spanning 444 acres in Palmetto Bay, Miami, Florida. Visitors explore eight distinct natural ecosystems including tropical hardwood hammock and mangroves on marked trails and boardwalks. Guided museum tours run daily and cover the site's 10,000 years of human history. Naturalist-led activities include bird walks through habitats where over 170 bird species have been documented, butterfly walks to observe nearly 40 documented species, and ethnobotany tours exploring the relationship between plants and human culture. At Deering Point, a separate waterfront location, guests can kayak and paddleboard on Biscayne Bay or fish from the dock while viewing wildlife. The main grounds remain open daily for self-guided exploration. Educational programs and special events occur throughout the year. The Stone House is currently closed for restoration, though other estate features remain accessible. Admission is charged and tickets are sold online through the county parks system.
