About Miami-Dade Military Museum

The Miami-Dade Military Museum & Memorial occupies the last remaining building from WWII Naval Air Station Richmond, the nation's southernmost blimp base, and presents immersive exhibits honoring military service from World War II through current operations. Visitors explore artifacts donated by South Florida veterans, personal stories of active-duty personnel and their families, and exhibits covering WWII history in the region, Cold War Cuban Exile anti-Castro activities, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. The museum hosts youth groups including Scouts and Sea Cadets, offers one-on-one counseling from veteran counselors, and provides educational programming for students from kindergarten through college levels. Lectures, patriotic events, and traveling exhibits complement the permanent displays. The building itself, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, served as CIA Station JM-WAVE during the Cold War. The museum operates in Miami on the grounds of Zoo Miami, adjacent to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum.
