About Stebelton Park at Rock Mill

Stebelton Park at Rock Mill in Lancaster preserves a historic mill that visitors tour during scheduled open hours. The current structure, built in 1824, stands five and a half stories high on two sandstone ledges above a deep gorge carved by the Hocking River. A 26-foot overshot waterwheel powered the mill's grinding mechanisms, fed by water channeled through a millrace chiseled directly into solid rock. The timber framing throughout is constructed entirely of oak, with power and grinding levels partially built into the rock face itself. During milling demonstrations held monthly, visitors observe traditional grain processing. The site represents one of a dozen mills that once operated in the area as flour and gristmills. The park sits in Bloom and Greenfield Townships near Lancaster and opens seasonally on specific weekdays and weekends with hours published on the parks department website.
