About Georgian Museum

The Georgian Museum occupies a Federal and Greek Revival mansion built in 1832 in one of Lancaster's National Historic Districts. Visitors take a guided tour through three restored floors, beginning with twelve-foot ceilings, carved archways, and period chandeliers that showcase early 19th-century craftsmanship. A cantilevered spiral staircase rises through the house to a glass cupola that illuminates all three levels. The restored kitchen features a beehive oven and fireplace, while rooms display historic furnishings made in Fairfield County during the 1800s. The museum displays dollhouses and antique miniatures, plus a carved figure collection by folk artist Elijah Pierce. Personal items belonging to Vice President Elbridge Gerry, U.S. Senator Thomas Ewing, and Ohio's first Attorney General Henry Stanbery are exhibited throughout. The museum also features decorative arts and period textiles throughout its galleries. A museum shop sells local history books, prints, and unique items. The first floor is wheelchair-accessible.
