About Flight of the Hawk Park

Flight of the Hawk Park in Lancaster occupies six acres in Berne Township and centers on a monumental red-tailed hawk sculpture towering 42 feet above ground. The sculpture features a 14-foot wingspan and comprises more than 3,000 torch-cut metal pieces welded together by local artist Ric Leichliter, weighing 2,500 pounds. The hawk was hot-dipped in galvanizing solution, painted in natural bird colors, and sealed with a protective coating. Beyond the main sculpture, the park displays sculptures of other native Ohio wildlife. Visitors come to view these artworks, observe birds, photograph the landscape and sculptures, take walks along the grounds, and picnic. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk, operating throughout the year on its grounds accessed via Old Logan Road in the southern part of the county.
