About Thurber House

Thurber House is a nonprofit literary arts hub and museum housed in the restored 1873 home of James Thurber, a renowned 20th-century American humorist, cartoonist, and author. Visitors tour the historic home to see James Thurber memorabilia and learn about his life and legacy. The organization hosts creative workshops for children, teens, and adults; author events featuring nationally known and local writers; social gatherings for book lovers; and writer residencies. Thurber House administers the Thurber Prize for American Humor, one of the nation's highest recognitions for humor writing and cartooning, which includes an annual award show celebrating finalists and winners. The venue also presents film screenings, horror writing workshops, young writers' studios, laughter wellness sessions, and holiday open houses with tours, crafts, and live music.
