About Saratoga Historical Park
Saratoga Historical Park features "Tracing its Roots," an exhibit that traces Saratoga's colorful history from the Muwekma Ohlone Indians through early lumbermills, fertile prune orchards, and the champagne fountains of Paul Masson to the present day. The museum is housed in a turn-of-the-century former drugstore nestled against the hillside, containing artifacts and photographs from early Saratoga. Special exhibits rotate regularly, giving visitors reason to return. The park celebrates legendary residents including Senator Phelan, who created Villa Montalvo's arts center; vintner Paul Masson; and actress Olivia de Havilland. Several local buildings were designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan. Visitors can take docent-led walking tours to see charming hundred-year-old homes, the historic Oak Street School, and the World War I Memorial Arch. A self-guided historic home bicycling tour is also available. The adjacent McWilliams House offers additional historical exploration. The museum gift shop sells local history books and artwork. Located in Saratoga, California, the park suits history enthusiasts seeking to understand the area's heritage.
