About Rio Vista Museum

Rio Vista Museum invites visitors to explore the history of Rio Vista, California through exhibits featuring artifacts contributed by community members. The museum opened in 1975 during the Bass Derby and grew out of the country's 1976 Bicentennial celebration. Visitors can view display cases and learn about the town's unique heritage through collections assembled by local residents. The newest exhibit, "Travel in a Bygone Time," examines how people traveled in earlier eras, featuring insights into journeys made by train and ship that took many days, as well as memories of formal air travel when passengers dressed in fancy clothes. The museum operates on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Groups interested in visiting during other hours may arrange tours by contacting the museum directly. Volunteers make the operation possible, welcoming visitors on weekend afternoons and helping share Rio Vista's local history.
