National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center in Wilberforce houses one of the nation's largest collections of Afro-American materials, including over 10,000 artifacts and artworks, 350 manuscript collections, and thousands of photographs. Visitors explore exhibitions focused on African American history, art, culture, and social movements across Ohio and the United States. The permanent collection features items such as Alex Haley's typewriter and final Roots manuscript draft, a buffalo hide coat worn by a Buffalo Soldier, and Gregory Hines's tap shoes. The museum presents live and online programming alongside rotating exhibitions that examine topics including the Underground Railroad, the Great Migration, and African American contributions to music and the arts. A typical visit requires one hour or more. Children age 5 and younger receive free admission, as do Central State University and Wilberforce University students.
