About Pennsylvania House

Pennsylvania House is a museum in a Federal-style brick structure built in 1839 that operated as an inn along the National Road. Visitors tour three floors displaying 19th-century furniture, paintings, clocks, portraits, china, glass, dolls, and textiles. The first floor features one of America's finest button collections, containing 100,000 buttons from the 18th through 20th centuries made from porcelain, glass, metal, shell, bone, and precious stones. Recreated rooms show the house's original function as an inn and tavern, including a tap room, general store, ladies parlor, formal dining room, and drovers' room. The second floor children's room contains a fully furnished twelve-room Federal dollhouse with period furniture handcrafted in black walnut and cherry. Another second floor room displays medical equipment from the 1870s, including an electroshock therapy kit used by a resident physician. The museum is located in Springfield, Ohio and operates on select weekends with published hours.
